I’ve seen these all over the internet and I’ve always wanted to give rock painting a try. I love inexpensive crafts that are also beautiful and easy to do with the kids. Rocks are the perfect, inexpensive canvas for trial and error.

[Can150Bookcation] travelling across Canada; one canadian book at a time
Usually I’d be finalizing our summer outings right now but, unfortunately our home took on water this spring and the repairs costs deflated the vacation budget. I do love to travel, especially little road trips! I won’t be able to do as many as I would have liked this summer and that got me thinking. A little project was born; The Can150Bookcation

The book starts off with Anais Barbeau-Lavalette explaining the hate she feels for her grandmother. This blunt declaration startled me and compelled me to dive deep into the pages of Suzanne.

Reading young adult or middle grade novels is something I love doing from time to time. As a mother of an anxious Tourette’s son, I try to find books that will appeal to him. Good books, that won’t be put down after reading just one chapter – you know exactly what I’m talking about !

The book is not only about gastronomy but a celebration of what Chez Mathilde is and the people and place behind it. The photography is amazing (and believe me, I know amazing photography).

Do I know Canada ?
Let’s see?, For the most part, I think I do. It’s a big country with a lot going on. I probably need a little refresher course.
[Review] Deer Life by Ron Sexsmith
Deer Life is full of whimsy and delight. It is the perfect book to get lost in when you want to hide away from the world. Also, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a grown up reading a fairy tale ! Come to think of it, I think that should be printed on a T-Shirt.

This is not only the story of Richard Dadd but also of Charlotte Brontë and Charles Dickens. I knew relatively little of Bronte and Dickens and absolutely nothing about Dadd. I was like a fresh canvas ready to absorb all there was to learn.

I’d like to think I picked out The House on Selkirk Avenue because I wanted to read something set close to home. Perhaps, The House on Selkirk Avenue chose me. It turned out to be a read that was certainly introspective. If I would have read this book in my 20’s, I don’t think I would have liked it yet, approaching my mid 40’s… I connected with Kate in so many ways.

Sometimes you challenge yourself with a book that doesn’t fit in your normal genre or goes beyond what you know in your everyday; Selection Day by Aravind Adiga was exactly that for me.
