It’s January. The start of a new year. This is the time when many people set new goals or resolutions for themselves. I’ve read a great number of my fellow bloggers with awesome reading goals for 2018, new themes for their Instagram, doing challenges (even multiple challenges) – friends and family telling me how they are going to lose a certain amount of weight or join a gym. I’m not going to even attempt any form of New Year’s resolution. They just don’t work for me.

While I’ve been on this small social media break, I think I’ve found the genre I prefer reading. Yes, this came as a complete surprise to me since I thought I liked to read a variety of things with no clear favourite. I finally admitted it to myself when my Kobo kept proving it to me.

It’s not easy for me to write about myself, it doesn’t come naturally. I’m going to push myself from time to time to bring you [No Umbrella Required]; snippets of who I am. So here we have my first post on how books have become somewhat of my personal shield.
If you ask people why they enjoy reading they might tell you that they love to be transported to a different place in time, that they read to relax or even use reading as a sleeping aid. I read for a whole lot of reasons but only recently have I twigged on how books have become my shield.
