Lost In The Rain

The book is not only about gastronomy but a celebration of what Chez Mathilde is and the people and place behind it. The photography is amazing (and believe me, I know amazing photography).

Deer Life is full of whimsy and delight. It is the perfect book to get lost in when you want to hide away from the world. Also, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a grown up reading a fairy tale ! Come to think of it, I think that should be printed on a T-Shirt.

This is not only the story of Richard Dadd but also of Charlotte Brontë and Charles Dickens. I knew relatively little of Bronte and Dickens and absolutely nothing about Dadd. I was like a fresh canvas ready to absorb all there was to learn.

I’d like to think I picked out The House on Selkirk Avenue because I wanted to read something set close to home. Perhaps, The House on Selkirk Avenue chose me. It turned out to be a read that was certainly introspective. If I would have read this book in my 20’s, I don’t think I would have liked it yet, approaching my mid 40’s… I connected with Kate in so many ways.

Sometimes you challenge yourself with a book that doesn’t fit in your normal genre or goes beyond what you know in your everyday; Selection Day by Aravind Adiga was exactly that for me.

I’ll be the first to admit that the title of this book and the cover art are what hooked me. I’m bringing you this review a little late but since Ruth Ware is coming out with her third novel The Lying Game quite soon you may be interested in reading The Woman In Cabin 10, that’s if you haven’t already.

Being my first Lucinda Riley book, (and book 3 in the series) I didn’t know what to expect. Stepping into this book basically blindfolded, I was unsure if I’d find myself fully immersed. Boy, was I wrong ! This is a novel that kept me from chores, from making myself lunch, I may have even been late for an appointment as well !! You absolutely don’t need to read the two previous novels to get lost in The Shadow Sister.
